Kajian Logam Berat Pada Sedimen di Perairan Pesisir Kalimantan Timur

ABSTRACT
The objective of the research was to know the analysis of heavy metals on sediment at East Kalimantan coastal waters. The observation stations consisted of 5 sampling points, namely: Bontang, Muara Badak, Muara Sepatin, Tanjung Sembilang and Tanjung Jumlai coastal waters. The result showed that the concentrations of Hg ranged from < 0.0005 mg/kg to 0.002 mg/kg at sediment. The concentrations of Pb ranged from 6.328 mg/kg to 10.270 mg/kg, and Cd ranged from 5.419 mg/kg to 10.291 mg/kg. The concentration of Ni ranged from 7.120 mg/kg to 12.481 mg/kg at sediment. There was not As concentration detected (lest than 0.001 mg/kg) at all sampling points. The values of pH on sediment ranged from 6.58 to 7.36, indicated the chemical process that occurs in the sediments was the oxidation conditions. The statistic analysis showed that Cd and Ni were significantly different by sampling station (pα0.05). The heavy metals concentrations of Hg, Cd, Pb, Ni and As were also not significantly different by sampling periods (p>α0.05).

Analisis Deskriptif Faktor Lingkungan Terkait dengan Zonasi Hutan Mangrove Jalur Hijau Delta Mahakam

ABSTRACT
Survey on the environmental factors in relation to the mangrove forest zonation in Mahakam Delta was carried out in November and December 2009, and January 2010. The survey focused on two locations, north (Muara Badak subdistrict) and center (Anggana subdistrict) of Mahakam Delta. Based on the data distribution and descriptively, water turbidity, water transparency, and water salinity was the factor which affected the zonation. Salinity was the main factor and played an important role on the distribution of mangrove species; Sonneratia alba grew facing the sea while Rhizophora mucronata existed behind them, and Nypha fructicans was found out away from the sea approaching the freshwater ecosystem.

A study was carried out to reveal several aspects of morphometric on Scylla sp. The result revealed male crabs differed from female crabs on their abdominal width, chela length and merus of 3rd walking leg. However, male crabs infected by parasites have wider abdominal flap than normal males.

ABSTRACT
Sea surface temperature (SST) and Chlorophyll-a are the important oceanographic parameters in determining the abundance influence and distribution of fish. This research was aimed to determine the variability of SST, Chlorophyll-a, the catches and the relationship between SST, and Chlorophyll-a toward catches. This study took place in East Kalimantan waters. Data was produced from satellite image data Aqua MODIS level 3, meteorology and catches data The sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a data were analysed for their variability. Euthynnus affinis catched from East Kalimantan waters were used in this research . The Fish catched from the waters that landed in PPI Selili Samarinda were analysed for their variability. The mapping of the Fishing Ground of Euthynnus affinis using data of sea surface temperature, Chlorophyll-a, and fish catch. were then be validated with data from the position of fisherman operational area.

Karang Sebagai Bioindikator Pendeteksi Logam Berat

ABSTRACT
Soft tissue on corasl have an important role for its living. All of the biology activities running on these tissue. Heavy metals which content on waters may affect the coral life and growth. The purpose of this research was to study heavy metals effect on coral reef. In this study, Haematoxylin and AB pH 2,5 methods were used in visualizing the heavy metals accumulation and mucous content. The micro morphological evaluation showed that the Pb had accumulated and distributed on cells of soft tissue. Normal condition were found at mucous content. Heavy metals which accumulated in the coral shown that the coral in these areas are not in healthy condition.considering that heavy metals can damaged cells and impeded enzym activity if meet with the sulfur which contained in amino acid on protein.

Struktur dan Komposisi Vegetasi Mangrove di Teluk Toli-Toli Sulawesi Tengah

ABSTRACT
Study on the structure and composition mangrove vegetation at Toli-Toli bay, Central Sulawesi had been carried out on may 2009 by survey methods and determined by quadrates/plots and transects. Each individual of trees and juvenile and its diameter of breast high in the plot of 100m2 was enumerated and measured as well as their species were also identified; for seedling purposes was limited in the plot of 25 m2. Density, Frequency, Dominance, Importance Values and Diversity index of the vegetations were calculated. The results show 12 mangrove species of 8 families at Toli-Toli bay, Site 1 Sandana, Site 2 Baru and Site 3 Nalu was dominated by Sonneratia alba 46%, Avicennia alba 50% and Rhizophora mucronata 36% respectively, while Site 4 Tambun was mixed among species of Avicennia alba (15%), Bruguiera (12%) , Rhizophora mucronata (13%), Rhizophora apiculata (16%) and Sonneratia alba (27%). Site 5 Pulias was grown by 55% of Rhizophora apiculata and at Site 6 Kabetan Island entirely was dominated by Rhizophora mucronata (100%). Mangrove forest functioned to protect coastal areas, Toli toli bay faced the sea and therefore having wave direct effect from the strait of Makssar as well as the sea of Sulawesi.

Karakteristik Distribusi dan Kerapatan Lamun Pada Rataan Terumbu di Pesisir Kota Bontang

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to define the characteristic of distribution and density of Seagrass in the intertidal zone of reef flats at Bontang City. The research was conducted in June – December 2009. Based on identification, the species found during study were Enhalus acoroides, Halophila ovalis, H. minor dan Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea ratundata, C. serulata, Halodule pinifolia and Syringodium isoetifolium. The diversity of seagrass speciesshowed an increase pattern from north to south. The highest value for relative density and important index represented by Enhalus Acoroides. The community structure of the seagrass was considered in a state of stabile and there was no ecological pressure happended.
